LEADING fancy Prince De Beauchene’s departure from the Grand National has left many disappointed – but odds for On His Own have slashed down to around 7/1.
For the second year running Prince De Beauchene has failed to take part in the Aintree race due to injury, this time a minor hip fracture, but I am sure he would gallop to victory if he were to line up for the gruelling challenge again.
Not only did the stakes shift dramatically in racing’s most famous contest, but the £6.6m Dubai World Cup also came under headlines this week.
The draw for starting positions worked in favour for Hunter’s Light, one of three Godolphin’s runners this year, but did not help Animal Kingdom.
Ahead of Saturday’s race, Hunter’s Light has secured stall 4, while Animal Kingdom was drawn wide in box 10.
And because of this, odds for Animal Kingdom, a well-backed and strong horse in the field, have been lengthened to 11/2 while Hunter’s Light is now leading the pack at 4/1.
Even though it will be a disadvantage to start wide, I hope the horse will make it an advantage and create a race to remember.
But both contests will be exciting to watch and even though I can’t be at either of them (boo) I hope the atmosphere is just as electric through the TV screen.
