It's unfortunate, but I feel the racing takes a bit of a lull at this time of the season with the Cheltenham dust settling behind us. The Media seem to dwell on the festival, which is great, but I'm not the biggest fan of the Gold Cup, which seems to be all that's covered.
That being said, lots to look forward to with the upcoming flat season, kicking off in just under a week with the Lincoln. It's been reported bookmakers have been laying Aidan O’Brien's, Gleneagles all week. Now as short as 7/2, 4/1 for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May. I saw Gleneagles beat Full Mast by half a length at Longchamp last October, but the stewards got involved & the O’Brien horse was placed 3rd. The horse is of obvious interest, but I was slightly surprised to hear ante-post gamblers going into this one for the 2000 Guineas with the likes of Ivawood & Flaming Spear also good looking types, to name a few.
The Grand National advert has been released & good god it's terrible. I would give my right arm to see the brief for this piece of work. Last year we had a tip of the hat to the origins of the game. This year is simply a monstrosity. Not that it really matters but I think it's bad enough to mention.
